International Tea Day
On May 21, 2024, the FAO headquarters hosted an event dedicated to the International Tea Day. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu, stressed the importance of tea not only in terms of culture and health benefits, but also in the issue of the agricultural economy of a number of countries, the empowerment of women, and the elimination of inequality.
The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to FAO, Igor Golubovskiy, expressed gratitude to the FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu, and to the Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to FAO, Guang Defu, for promotion of this useful initiative and the intensive involvement of Russia. I.Golubovskiy stressed the important role of tea in the Russian culture and in the nutrition of the multinational Russian people, noted the importance of this drink in establishing close friendly contacts not only between people, but also between states. The event continued in the format of an exhibition, dedicated to the tea traditions of different countries, and was accompanied by tasting events for tea, coffee and various types of national dishes. The Russian exposition stand was very popular among the guests.
As part of the tasting session, Russia presented to visitors tea, confectionery products, honey and jam of domestic production (the companies LLC "Krasnodar Tea Association", Tea Artel "VerkhneKhostinskaya", LLC "Peroni", LLC "Trading House "Honey Traditions", "ARTA").
