On April 22, the first “reconciliation of hours” took place between the Permanent Mission and the FAO Liaison Office with Russia (FAOLOR, located in Moscow) in a video conference format on the most pressing issues of interaction between the Russian Federation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It was moderated by the Permanent Representative of Russia to the FAO and other UN Agencies in Rome V.L.Vasiliev and the new Director of the FAOLOR O.Yu.Kobyakov.

It was noted that despite the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic cooperation between Russia and the FAO is developing at a steady pace. The network of contacts of the FAO Moscow office with Russian participants is expanding and strengthening. It includes Federal Ministries and Departments, civil society organizations, business, research and academic circles. The ongoing projects in the field of food security, nutrition, funded by the Russian Federation through the FAO are being implemented consistently. The proposals for the future are being worked out.

In turn, the Permanent Representative emphasized iAts readiness to assist in the implementation of priority projects both in the interests of developing the domestic agricultural sector and international cooperation.

The sides reached an agreement on strengthening mutual support in terms of information and media, including in the context of anniversary dates: the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the creation of the UN and FAO; as well as preparations for the UN Food System Summit of 2021.

It was agreed to continue the practice of contacts between the Permanent Mission and the FAO Liaison Office with Russia.
