The 161st session of the FAO Council completed its work
On April 8-12, the 161st Session of the FAO Council was held in Rome. The participants of the event reviewed the draft Medium Term Plan, the FAO Program of Work and Budget for 2020–2021, and also discussed the organizational issues of preparation for the 41st session of the FAO Conference (Rome, June 22-29, 2019).
It was decided to submit a draft resolution on the use of sustainable approaches in agriculture, including the use of agri-environmental practices, to the FAO Conference for approval. A number of other resolutions have been sent for revision.
During the session a special meeting was held where the candidates for the post of FAO Director General from Georgia, India, China, and France presented their election programs.
A Russian joint delegation composed of representatives of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia participated in the work of the session. It was headed by Russia's Permanent Representative to FAO and other UN Agencies in Rome, Victor L. Vasiliev.
