The 46th CFS session started in Rome on October 14. The Committee is the main specialized platform for international agencies based in Rome and organizations of the UN system. It is designed for a comprehensive dialogue on global food safety and nutrition issues. Representatives from 111 countries attend the event alongside non-governmental and international organizations, business circles (over a thousand delegates).

The Russian interdepartmental delegation is led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture S.L.Levin. It also includes experts from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health of Russia, the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Russian Permanent Mission in Rome.

The conference will address current issues of food safety and global nutrition, including support for small and family farming, the development of sustainable food systems and the future of the agroecological concept. Above all, the Committee’s priorities for the forthcoming four-year period are to be agreed at the session.

Speaking at the opening of the event, S.L.Levin emphasized the need for coordinated efforts of all interested parties in solving the problems of hunger, ensuring global food security and a healthy diet. The head of the Russian delegation praised the role of the CFS in facilitating multilateral core cooperation. He also dwelled on approaches to strengthening the domestic agricultural sector and mentioned positive trends in the Russian agricultural sector.

CFS will host several World Food Day ceremonies on October 16.

The session will complete its work on October 18.
