72^nd session of the FAO Committee on Commodity Problems underway in Rome

The 72-nd session of the FAO Committee on Commodity Problems was held on September 26-28 at FAO headquarters. Participants of the event discussed the state of the world markets of agricultural commodities, trends and forecasts of their development. One of the highlight items of the session was the issue of agricultural biodiversity.

A separate topic of discussion was the course of negotiations on agriculture in the framework of the WTO and regional trade agreements. Russian representatives participated in the discussion.

The FAO secretariat presented the flagship report, "State of Agricultural Markets". It provides analyses of the correlations between trade, commodity markets, climate change, and food security.

The Committee on Commodity Problems was established in 1949. It provides overall guidance on policy development and standard-setting for issues related to agricultural commodity markets. Sessions of the Committee are held biannually.
