The 161st session of the FAO Council began its work on April 8 at FAO headquarters. The Russian delegation is composed of Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture representatives. It is headed by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to FAO and other UN Agencies in Rome
Victor L. Vasiliev.

The session will focus the attention mainly on the draft Medium Term Plan, Program of Work and Budget of FAO for 2020-2021. Participants of the event will also consider a number of FAO draft resolutions that are to be approved
at the upcoming 41st session of the FAO Conference (Rome, June 22-29, 2019).

A special meeting will be held during the session on April 11. At said event the candidates for the post of FAO Director General will present their election programs.

The session will end on April 12.
