Proposal to establish Eurasia Region within FAO

During the 44th session of the FAO Conference (June 28 – July 4, 2025) Russia and Belarus propose the creation of a new Eurasia Region (EAR) within the FAO, along with the allocation of two additional Council seats.

This initiative is aimed at modernizing the outdated regional structure (unchanged since 1953) and ensuring fair and balanced representation in line with new geopolitical and agri-economic realities. Russia and Belarus, as major global players in agriculture and logistics, argue that their exclusion from the European regional rotation mechanism is politically motivated and violates FAO principles.

The proposal calls for depoliticizing FAO governance and giving a voice to countries outside EU influence. The proposal follows FAO’s legal framework.. A vote will take place at the FAO Conference in Rome on June 28, 2025.

Russia and Belarus call for a secret ballot on this proposal and for a support to the initiative itself (Conference Document C 2025/26 https://openknowledge.fao.org/server/api/core/bitstreams/83cb8800-616b-4376-bde0-54f8e5c61900/conten...)

We will truly appreciate your kind support for our proposal.
